Data
Dots are an advanced way of marking your assets with your personal identification. Data
Dots are almost impossible to remove and don't impact the appearance of an asset if correctly applied. They can be applied to anything including computers, stereos, jeweler, golf clubs, antiques, collectables and mobile phones. You can then keep track of which assets you have protected with Data
Dots using our asset management software included with each kit.
Individually inscribed "micro
dots" were originally developed by the United States military in the 1940s to covertly “tag” or identify items. It became obvious the tiny plastic discs would be useful for espionage – the grain-size message carriers were very easy to conceal and transport.
It was then not until the early 1990s, with the advent of laser etching, that micro
dots became a commercially feasible product. A U.S. engineer was the first to develop a low-cost process on to inscribe information on to thousands of micro
dots in a short period of time.
The first application of these new micro
dots was in the casino industry. Thousands of fake casino chips are manufactured and gambled through casinos worldwide, but in 1995 authentic chips were permanently marked with micro
dots, making it obvious which chips were the fakes.
The U.S. manufacturer of micro
dots was bought by Australian interests to form Data
Dot Technology Ltd (DDT). The company has since grown, and has grown to become a global leader in identification technologies. Today, DDT is protecting personal and commercial assets in 21 countries, across a variety of industries and products.
